We survive on mainly donations but have recently started selling animal products at our adopotion center to help cover the cost of feeding the animals, rent, utilities etc. Our prices are very comparable to othere area store. Problem is even if we try to sell adopters something they say no thanks we are going to Petco etc. I end up emotional and irritated when I try to explain if we don't pay our rent we cannot stay open and help the animals or the community. Any ideas on what I could put on a short sign in the shop to make people realize that if they support our cause as much as they claim they do they should buy from us? I need to do this without sounding like a jerk which is how I come off half the time when I say it verbaly

I think just a plain, simple sign (or signs) with something like, “Not all animals are as lucky as the one you are taking home today. What you purchase from us today saves a life tomorrow. All money earned from the sales of these products benefits the animals in our center, providing them with better lives until they finally find their forever home.” displayed in a prominent place would do wonders.

Maybe find an image of a dog looking up with his head ****** for the sign. That has got to be the most heart-melting expression a dog can give.

I had to deal with an adoption center in upstate N.Y. not that long ago i had to let one of my adopted cats go since she after, 2 months of being with us, was still not adapting to our other pets....I know sad right?
well anyway, I don't know about the sign and product thing, but I do have a suggestion for more money to come in

they charged me $50 dollars to drop her off. I thought this was a lot to ask when so many centers let you drop off a pet for free
I asked about this and was told it is to help with the costs of running the shelter
It opened my eyes to the fact of how many shelters are running on donations. now i can't (as many people) donate money. so now I donate any food and toys and snacks that don't go over big with my own pets. I also once a month volunteer or get a cheep bag of food, toy etc. and drop it off!

i'm no wild and vicious or i does not be having this verbal substitute. i think of people have a bond with animals, particularly canines and different enjoyed ones pets because of the fact they often teach devotion to the owner, the likes of which isn't seen via any random individual you would be able to fulfill. yet to assert that each and one and all people are wild and vicious is to assert all and sundry you have ever understand grew to become into wild and vicious...

Put on the sign. These animals need us as much as we need you. Please give what you can to help.. Put a picture of a puppy dog sticking his head out of a cardboard box
