When one is admitted into hospital, there is usually a file of your medical notes and history on the table. Are patients allowed to look at this? We were told that it was hospital policy not to allow patients to look at them but that we would have to apply in writing for a copy - but surely it should be a right for the patient to look at their own notes?

They leave it I look. By now records should be on computer thus doing away with the hardcopy.

The hospital is accountable for "access" to your medical record. You have to sign a release for you to "have access" to this record. Hence the reason you are not allowed to just read the file (nor is someone pretending to be you). You not only have the right to "access" their record about you, you also have the right to append your notes (as in sticky notes that as supposed to stay stuck ) correcting misinformation.

Now...I know the above to be true...yet, I have not figured out how they keep those notes stuck to the computer screen aNd still do their work...

Part of why you're not allowed to see them without giving consent is for your own protection- and the protection of the facility and its employees. Can you imagine seeing something that said you were gravely ill when you were unprepared for it? What a mess!
They should never leave them in the room, the policy should always be that they are taken out when the employee admiting you leaves the room.
I don't think I'd want to see mine and if I did, I would have no problem requesting the records.

technically speaking you dso have to write to your gp for a copy, but some places/doctors will allow you to look at you records without applying in writin. like 2 examples, when i was preg aside from havin my own medical notes to carry with me, i was rushed into hospital with an infection, i was alound to have a copy of them result there and then, these results went to the doc rather than in my book but i still got a copy. another time i had bloods taken to see my hormones lvls as been having some menstral prob, but i went in wen i got the results and they just gave em me i didnt need to write in. if you ever get this situation again n u want to find out ur record or just even see them, just ask the worst they can say is ou have to write in to obtain a copy. but i dont see y they shouldnt let you look

I was at a hospital once and my notes were left on the table...when I went to take a look at them..a nurse came in and told me that if I wanted to see them it would cost me £25.
