I cleaned his bowl using tap water that i always use then i put a chlorine remover in it. This time he got sick and started laying on the bottom of the bowl and not eating. I then went and bought bottled water and put him in that adding aquarium salt as directed. He still is not eating and that was 8 hrs ago. If he does swim he acts very lethargic, but then slowly goes back to the bottom. He also occasionally attacks the top of the water then floats back to the bottom. He has no rapid gill movement or any signs of parasites. I have had him for 8 months and nothing has ever been wrong. Please help....

They will often do this in a bowl because gold fish require a lot of dissolved oxygen. This can only enter the water by movement. Wind, waves, powerheads filters waterfalls. Air stone are nice looking and add nothing for Dissolved oxygen.

He needs to be in a filterd tank. Until you do this he will be lethargic. Also, he needs cooler water 55-65.

a million. The water wasn't cycled so they are swimming in ammonia and have water ask your self. 2. Goldfish won't be in a position to stay in bowls, they might advance over a foot long and bring countless waste, for 2 Goldfish you prefer a minimum of a 60 gallon in the event that they are Fancy GF or a a hundred and twenty gallon in the event that they are difficulty-loose GF. in case you stunt their advance from a small tank their organs will advance extra desirable than their physique and kill them slowly. 3. you have not got a filter out or bubbler i'm assuming, so they are suffocating. 4. You did no longer positioned de-chlorinator in the faucet water. Sorry, analyze pets earlier you purchase them! sturdy success!

He needs a way bigger home. A bowl is insufficient for all fish, especially goldfish. Whoever thought about putting them in a bowl was insane! Either find a new home for your fish, or get at least a ten gallon tank. But be prepared to buy him a new tank as soon as he gets bigger, at least a 29 gallon. If you want a fish that could live in a smaller tank get 1 male or female betta, at least a 2.5 gallon tank, with a heater that keeps the water between 75-80 degrees. Also, feed it bloodworms! My prefernce is freeze dried ones.

Sounds like your goldfish got intoxicated by something. Infection rarely produce symptoms in matter of hours. It could be excess chlorine, maybe your dechlorinator is expired? Or...could it be poor oxygenated water? But it is less likely if your fish shows no signs of gasping prior to that.

Anyway...let's stop wondering and do first aid first....

Perform water change....I see that you already done that using bottled water....that's fine but how about oxygen concentration...it may not suffice,..provide enough aeration, but gentle so it won't harm your sick Comet. Adding filtration thru activated carbon might help.

Then observe closely... don't feed the fish till it get well first. Uneaten food will just worsen things. Medication comes last...after we ruled out intoxication.

Hopefully it will get better...

The problem is the bowl. Comet needs a tank or pond. No goldfish should be forced to live in a bowl. Its the equivalent of living inside your high school locker, eating, pooping and breathing in the same tiny confined space.
Something got to your fish's gills. You can't cure him inside a bowl. Sorry.

goldfish like the feel of cool water, but if the water is to cold they will stay at the bottom,or it could need a liitle more oxygen even though they don't require it they do better with it
