Why is Canadiens spelled with an "e" rather than an "a". Also, why are they sometimes referred to as the "Habs" and what does that mean. Does that have anything to do with the "H" in the logo?

Canadiens is spelt with an E because its in french and the actual name of the Montreal Canadiens is Le Club de Hockey Canadiens. and the CH stands for Club Hockey. the Habs where founded in 1909 the NHL was founded in 1917 and the Habs are celebrating their 100 anniversary in the 2008-09 season also hosting the 2009 All-Star game.

Habitants is the name used to refer to both the French settlers and the America-born inhabitants of French origin who farmed the land along the two shores of the St. Lawrence waterway in what is the present-day Province of Quebec in Canada.

Habitant (french) Habs (English) their was someone that told Tex owner of the Rangers back in the early years that the H on the sweater meant Habs which it doesn't as i told you it means HOCKEY.

The franchise is officially known as Le Club de Hockey Canadien, but they are usually referred to as "Les Canadiens de Montréal" and their English name. Other French nicknames for the team include Le Canadien, Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge, La Sainte-Flanelle, Le Tricolore, Les Glorieux, Les Habitants and Le Grand Club. In English, the main nickname is the Habs.

and I'm HABITANT as you can see me and Ken Dryden mask.
