Local Historical Society, or, go look at the Clerk of the Court's office, because they should have deed info on that site..

Normally, any office that keeps records of the land in your area will have detailed history of what existed there before. Suggest you visit them and find out.

Call it superstition but there are instances where buildings, homes or offices built on plots of land that have a sad or violent history, have some inexplicable phenomenon occuring there.

For example, I had bought an apartment in a building that was really beautiful and well located. However, anyone who came up the stairs would find a strange chill and gloomy darkness prevalent for no apparent reason, even if the outside temperature was very high and the day, sunny. Just walking up or down the stairs would cause even the happiest person to remember something unpleasant.

I sold the apartment- at a loss- because nobody wanted to live in that building after it developed some sort of a reputation for being haunted, for no known causes. At least, I was lucky to recover part of whatever I had paid.

Property records. The town hall should have that info and sometimes you can access it online. You'd find out when the current building was built at least. If you want to find out what was there before, you'd have to go to the records department though. Sometimes you may have to pay a fee for them to dig though the old files. I recommend calling the town hall and asking about it, they'll tell you what to do. If you're talking about an old 'Indian burial ground' or something, you may never find out info that old but you may find it had been a more recent cemetery once. You never know.

Try address search, local legends and area/city history. I went to Google and just typed in the town name and came up with some interesting things.

Suppose it's on old ancient Indian burial grounds? Check the local historical society office about this.
