Since 911 Al Quaeda has been seriously weakened. A great number of their leaders have been captured or killed and a great deal of their finances have been frozen or seized.
Also, even though it may be true that many Muslims are sympathetic to the cause of Al Quaeda there are many of them who felt the attacks of 911 were a huge mistake and did little to further their cause. This is a very little known fact.

Against the mighty military outfits, alQaeda was never a 'Force' worth paying any attention. That was a motley of few, ill equipped persons with no WMD but with a passion to sacrifice their own life, when there be no way out. AlQaeda could be softened down by a Police action, not by deployment of Army,Navy,AirForce,Marines... and not by merciless bombing of civilians.

They have obviously become stronger. Muslims around the world can step out and looki in their backyards and see the destruction caused by America

personally i think they are stronger now because people see what is going on in Iraq and they are getting more and more frustrated so they decide to join alqaeda. people around the world and not just arabs lost their trust in the American government and i mean the government only not the citizens because of the poor decisions bush has been making.

Weaker. We have systematically hunted down and killed their planners and trained personnel. Having Bin Laden hiding reduces his credibility in Arab eyes. We have disrupted their financing and communications. By removing their ability to launch international attacks we have forced them to conduct attacks against other Muslims in an attempt to remain relevant. These attacks have further tarnished their reputation in Muslim eyes.
We have hurt them badly.
