Culturally, Japanese people do not really enjoy alot of "physical contact" (hugging, kiss to greet, touching when talking), so you may want to be careful of that.

Most japanese people are very kind, polite and helpful. You shouldn't have any problems if you're lost or if you need help. Most also know basic english, so there's no need for you to learn Japanese (although knowing some simple phrases may help you).

Bring lots of money. The exchange rate is terrible these days.

You do not need to learn Japanese but it would be smart and polite to learn a few phrases including how to say "I am sorry but I do not speak Japanese)

Polite goes a long ways there.

Also, tif you are going the next week, you can see the sakura trees!, it´s an unique experience.
Also, exchange your dollars to yen.
And buy the Japan Rail Pass if you can, it´s really a saving.

See ya
