Usually the secondary metabolites (applied to plants) have some sort of benefit to man. For the plant however, these metabolites are used for defense, survival, etc. Over time and with research, we can focus on these metabolites to learn of their beneficial properties. Natural products, or products obtained from nature, are grouped together.
