It's possible, though the interference has been overstated. Check the link below to see which antibiotics are known to interfere.
If in doubt, use a back up method until the end of this cycle as long as you are off the ABs.

A surprising amount of drugs, with antibiotics being the most famous, can affect how the pill absorbs into your stomach and thus into your blood. *However*, the amount absorbed does *not* necessarily changed the pill's effectiveness, and the impact depends a *lot* on the type of antibiotic taken.

In general, studies show an increase in contraceptive failures from ~1% to ~1.4% when you take antibiotics. And that's assuming perfect use: the vast bulk of contraceptive failure is due to the patient taking them improperly and is more around ~5-8%

From the point of "Well, that's all well and good but frankly I do take my pills properly and it's *me* who doesn't want to get knocked up" I'd say skip sex for the duration of your antibiotics (bad for a UTI anyway) and then use a backup for about 7 days to make sure you've got the meds out of your system. Probably overkill, but rather safe than sorry.

YES. If you do not want to get pregnant than I suggest you not have intercourse while on the antibiotics and about a week after to make sure they're out of your system. If you go to webmd.com and look up your prescription it'll tell you if it will interfere with your bc pills. I had a uti and was prescribed antibiotics and they told me that it would affect my bc pills. Be careful!

Yes it will. You need a back up method unless you want to become pregnant. It is not a sure thing that it will happen but many studies have been done and antibiotics make birth control less effective.

Absolutely. I am on antibiotics right now too, and my doctor told me I need to use back up. Something about the antibiotics "voids" the birth control pill.

Yes, anytime you take an antibiotic you need to use a back up form of birth control.

Yes many antibiotics interfere the effects of birth control. Your best to talk to you doctor about the particular drug your on and see what he/she recommends, it may be one that doesn't effect it at all.

Yes, definitely. The information the pharmacy gives you with the medication should tell you all about it.
