Australia is a big country (a continent actually) so it depends on which part you are refering to and how you are travelling. There are flights from Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) to Perth, about 4 hours away. Some flights connect via Singapore or Brunei so it will take a little longer. There are also other flights to Sydney (about 8 hours), Melboure, Brisbane etc.

If you hitchhike or pedal, I suggest you travel via Indonesia (through Malaysia down to Singapore, take a boat to Jakarta, go to Bali, take another boat to East Timor, and then Darwin) as there are regular buses on land and boats plying these waters. It could take you a week if you take in the sights along the way.

Darwin is the city- nearest point to Malaysia followed by Perth . It is quite near to Bali or Java Indonesia as well. Maybe 7-8 hours by flight to Kuala Lumpur and only 1-2 hours head/ time difference!

Right around the corner. Turn right on Islam Headchop lane, right on Religion of Peace drive, go straight on Don't Show Muhammed or I Will Riot and Destroy Property Avenue, go thousands of miles and you are there.
