I've read all of these but "The Pavillion"--I've never even heard of it, to tell you the truth--so I cannot recommend it. I've read all of Jane Austin's published work, so, as you can easily guess, I'd certainly recommend her. "Les Liasons Dangeroux" is an extraordinarily hearbreaking work from which the reader can learn a lot about real history, "the human condition" and literary form--this is the world's greatest "epistolary" novel in my opinion. That being said, I'd choose Hardy--he's a wonderful novelist and an even better poet, and though this is not my favorite among his novels, it is a trurly great and wrenching story and may make you want to read more of his stuff.
I hope you read all of them and then some more, and more after that, and more, and....

Well a lot of this depends on the style of book you enjoy. All three of the Jane Austen's are good, and I know that Thomas Hardy is a good author, although I have not read that book. You need to narrow your choices down to genres you like: Historical, Romance, Action, mystery. Things like that will help you pick the best books for you, and if you enjoy them you will do better in class. You will remember things, have questions, point out details during discussion. Good luck.

I absolutely LOVED Sense and Sensibility, even more so than Pride and Prejudice (which I know a lot of people really liked). As a second choice, though, I would go with Mansfield Park.

I haven't read any of these books, however, I have read several of Jane Austen's other works. She is always very entertaining and I love the plots within plots that always seem to exist within her novels.
