Be careful when classifying parts of the body. The heart is an organ, as is the liver, lungs, etc. An organ is a group of tissues that function together for a main purpose. The heart's purpose is delivering nutrients to the body and returning wastes for removal. Muscle is considered a tissue, which is part of an organ.

A heart is both a muscle and an organ at the same time. Let us not forget the ff:
cells --> tissues --> muscles --> organ --> organ system --> organism
This means that a group cells similar in form and function and their intercellular substances are called tissues. And bundles of tissues that have similar functions and forms are called muscles. Moreover, muscles form organs and organs form organ system. Several organ systems functioning together form a organism.

The heart is both an organ (in the circulatory system) and a muscle (pumping blood to various systems of the body). It is referred to as a "muscular organ" for a reason. :)

heart is an organ and the muscle i.e the cardiac muscle to be precise is not its only component.in fact it forms only the middle myocardial layer. the heart has an inner endocardial layer made up of a single layer of squamous epithelium and an outer ectocardium made up of connective tissue.
