you need a lot of money.Look at the average student loans for the training and compare it with the average salary. sit down and calculate if you think you can pay for your loans off of that salary plus whatever else you need to pay for in life. If money is not the issue..then go and talk with vets. Also look at the vet schools. Most will require a similar background like pre-meds.. so 1 year of bio, 1 year of physics, 1 year of chem, 1 year of organic...at least. They may also have certain averages for your overal gpa vs. your science gpa. Then they may want to see that you have spent time with a vet, so maybe volunteer, or shadow some vets, so that you really know what you are getting into.
Never look at the veterinary associations, or the schools to get salary practice information. alot of times they will distort the truth in order to keep an interest in the field, instead of telling the truth that vets are making less money than they used to. Instead look at forums, get out and talk to real people who are practicing and ask them to share their experiences with you. look at this site for more info:

It's definitely a more difficult career to get into as opposed to becoming a Doctor, and it's hard to break into the field as there are a limited amount of places at university.

If you honestly think you want to be a Vet, then I would say a high motiviation drive and a passion for animals is what you need, on top of the hours per week of studying and staying at the top of your classes. A family friend of mine is taking Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology A-Levels, but I think that she would do better doing 5 A-Levels even so!

Chemistry is essential at A-Level followed by Biology, but don't drive yourself crazy with the subjects, I'd make sure that you enjoy them because they're pretty intense and you'll be doing them for a long time.

If you successfully get a place at a University, then be prepared for a 4 year degree followed by 3/4 more years of study.

Also - make sure you enter yourself for volunteer work! As much experience that you can get.

In the end though, after the years of studying I'm sure that it would be a very rewarding career, once you've finished you're just going to look back and shrug it off, because you're going to have way more years of helping animals ahead of you and that should be what you're looking forward to - if you honestly are prepared to go through it all. If you are then I admire your determination!

A Vet Tech is a vet nurse. you always desire a 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days degree to artwork as a vet tech, yet skills do selection with some states. salary could be everywhere from $19,000 to $40-one,000. Vet Assistants are helpers to the Vet Techs and Vets. maximum veterinary clinics will hire assistants with a extreme college degree. There are certificates courses for vet helping, yet technically there is not any want for them by way of fact you do no longer must be qualified to be a vet assistant. salary could be between $15,000 and $31,000 although that's often on the decrease facet.

mate i think you are a good person with a big heart who wants to care for animals, i wish that i had the stomach to do it cos i love animals and would love to become a vet and nurse them back to health so all i can suggest is to visit your local vet surgery and maybe try and get an apprentiship you can then earn while you learn there and then they will send you to college to obtain your qaulifiaction.... GOOD LUCK i hope it works out for you
