I'm scared to scratch it but it won't come clean of the thin layer of burnt on crap. Teenagers!

first, stop cooking teenagers! they are tough and yes, leave a big mess...

you can guy a scratch free ceram-top glass cleaner, in your grocery store. i personally, buy a huge container of Fast Orange, it's a hand cleaner, made my Loctite. I buy it at Sam's Club and it cleans great without scratching and I can buy a gallon of it for $6. when anything gets baked on, scrape it off with a straight razor.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and in their kitchen section, where all the model kitchens are, they have products in that area and they have these wipes, the come in a plastic can and you pull them out and tear them of. They are WONDERFUL! They are called glasstop cleaning wipes and one side has a porus side and the other side is smooth and it is the best scrubber I've used so far that workes well and is easy to use.

There is also a CeremaBrite kit that has a white bottle with a yellow top and a scrapper. You pour the white stuff all over the top of your range top, let it harden alittle bit, then use your scrapper to scape off all the stuff. You don't have to really worry about scratching it if you use the razor blade that comes with it because you're scracthing glass, imagine you're cleaning your windows, always make sure you have liquid on your surface when scrapping and you'll get all the crap off!

Go to a Home Depot or Lowes, or any store that carried kitchen appliances. In the area where the appliances are sold you shoulkd see some cleaning product for ceramic top stoves. I use mine all the time, with a scrubby pad (like SOS) that came with a sample of the cleaner when I purchased the stove. You don't have to worry about scratching the stove top with an SOS pad, i've been useing it for two years now, on the thin brown burnt on stuff you describe, and not one scratch!

When I bought our new stove it came with some cleaning/polishing stuff for just that. After that bottle is gone I'm sure one can find similar products in a store.

When I bought mine it came with a really small bottle of cleaner. I dont remember the name if the stuff but it was in a small blue & white bottle. It works really well.

If you get a razor blade and use it sideways it will get all the gunk off. If it is really stuck on there, spray it with windex until it softens and then use the razor blade.
