I was playing badminton and wiped out on my arm. For the first couple days moving the forearm at all really hurt. Even immediately afterward, here was hardly any swelling and nothing really hurts when I touch it--even vigorously.

Now, 2 weeks later, I have a great deal of my motion back, BUT I cannot lift anything heavier than an envelope or, possibly a mug of coffee, nor can I fully extend my arm without a great deal of pain. Also when I get startled and my muscles contract, the pain is brief but excruciating.

I just want to know what's wrong--tendons? ligaments? nerves? and when can I expect this to go away?

It sounds like you have a green stick fracture or ligaments that are very sore. If you can, get a sling and rest it in there until you can see your doctor. Typically rest is best! Is the pain superficial or is the feeling deeper inside your arm? Nerves are typically superficial.

Its a minor sprain of ligament and will go away slowly. I am also having sprain in soulders for last six months and it does not hurt much nor it cripples me with excruciating pain. Hence, so far I have not gone to my GP or Ortho for treatment since I don't find it alarming.
