I went to th edoc today and she said she saw a gest. sac and yolk sac through a vaginal ultrasound, bu tno fetal pole yet. i have to go back next wed. but i had a miscarriage at 9 weeks in jan. and im worried about another. i miscarried in jan. and a clear small sac came out empty. i asked the doc today if that meant there was no baby and if there was no baby this time and i had nothing to worry about. is she wrong?

The yolk sac means there is a baby. A blighted ovum is a gestational sac without a baby and, if you have a yolk sac, you do not have a blighted ovum

What you are seeing is perfectly normal for only 5 1/2 weeks. Sounds really normal and good so far.

Congratulations :)

It's possible to see the sac through the ultrasound and no fetal pole. I found out I was pregnant at five weeks and the vaginal ultrasound showed the sac and no heartbeat as well. At six weeks, they were able to see the flashing of the heart through the vaginal ultrasound and it wasn't until 12 weeks that they tried listening for it. While you can't help but worry, it is normal not to see anything yet, since the baby is so tiny, almost like a grain of rice. Best wishes to you.

Yes there can be all of that and no baby but it is still early yet, dont worry yourself too much. Try to wait it out until you go next time. I was 6 weeks when I had an ultrasound and seen my baby looked like a little tiny dot on the screen. Good luck!

im no expert, but ive read that at that stage of pregnancy the baby itself is smaller than a full stop.
please dont take me as gospel because i could be wrong
you could check out a website like www.babycenter.com and they tell you how big generally the baby will be for its gestational age
hope this helps try not to worry if your doc says its ok then chances are everything is fine
good luck with everything

don't worry yourself, it may just be too early to see it yet... i couldn't see the pole at 6 weeks, but i heard the heartbeat, so he/she is in there... sometimes its the position and just too early to see...
