It's the case with the majority of us.
There are the rare few who supposedly choose it, but those aren't actually homosexuals but heterosexuals who are "testing the waters." Usually because they were hurt by the opposite sex, but eventually they always revert back to their natural heterosexuality.
There are those who are "bi-curious" but those usually find long term partners in the opposite gender.
There are bisexuals, those who are truly able to find fulfilling relationships with either men or women. (Usually not at the same time, that would make them poly amorous bisexuals...and we won't get into that right now, not that there's anything wrong with it...just that it's very confusing to get into)
Then there are those who are simply homosexuals who are only able to find fulfilling partner relationships with members of the same gender.
I fall between bisexual and homosexual and simply identify as "gay."
I have had a couple of opposite gender relationships that were fulfilling, but more so with the same gender.
My current partner of ten years is the same gender.
I first "realized" I was 'different' than most of my childhood friends at a very young age. But I didn't accept it until I was an adult.

Think about it this way. Why the hell would I choose to be gay? What purpose would it serve? Why would i purposefully choose to be a minority that discriminated agaisnt and not equal in the eyes of the law? Now ok, Im gonna stop before i sound like a ranter. But, its true! I didnt know what gay was when I was youg, so I thought I wanted to be a girl cos I knew girls were supposed to like boys, which is what I did. Erm,,, thats about it

I'm not sure if I can honestly admit being 'born gay'; however, the feelings were enhanced when a male peer (I'm not going to disclose age) showed me a gentle compassionate few minutes. I was overwhelmed being cuddled and being treated like I was loved.
No sex was ever had, just the comfort of knowing another male figure had an interest in my feelings awoke senses in my being of wanting affections from men.
I was about 4 - maybe 5 when this happened.
I later on in life, got married - did the straight thing - had children - and then went back to being gay after the struggle of playing a 'straight' man began to turn. I noticed more and more men and wanted them.
My wife understood (after being honest with her about my sexuality before I married her) and invited me to return to my gay self. My blessing.
I'll leave it all there.
Thanks

for a start, dont call Same sex attracted people "Homosexuals". They may be, but you are placing them into one catergory. You dont see or hear gay and lesbian people going around calling people "Straights", "Heteros". They are just people.
And on the born gay thing, well yeah, we are born who we are, either same sex attracted or opposite sex attracted. However, some people only realise they are gay or lesbian when they come across this issue, like having a crush on someone at work or school, being turned on by naked men or women.

I have a friend who has a gay son. Jim knew his son was gay by the time he was 3 or 4. The son did not know he was gay until 12 or 14. It is a genetic, pre-natal hormonal trait. They usually don't "discover" for themselves they are gay until close to puberty. There are indications before hand from a 3rd person view.

I knew I was different at a young age but it was only as I got older that I realised what it was and only when I was in my early teens that I knew what it was to be gay.
I suppose I could have chose to live a straight life but that would have put both the woman and me through a very wasteful period. I thought it was best to do what was right for me.

I don't know for definite, but my sense is that quite a few men feel they are gay from very young, as several have said here. But I think there are others for whom it is much less clear until later, and on the whole women don't seem to have the same certainty pre-teens.

The short answer is that a homosexual person discovers their attraction to the same sex at the same age that a heterosexual person discovers their attraction to the opposite sex.
