I love James Morrow. He writes brilliantly. Anything - his short story collections, like Bible Stories for Adults and The Cat's Pajamas are good. I loved his Godhead Trilogy - Towing Jehovah, Blameless in Abaddon, and The Eternal Footman. Only Begotten Daughter was pretty good, too.

I am more of a non-fiction person myself but let me take a look on my book shelf and see what I've got....Bastard out of Carolina from Dorothy Allison was well written...intense but worth it. For any good chic lit...I always go for any book that is a spin off of Pride and Prejudice...those have various authors due to there being so many spin offs...Bel Canto by Ann Patchett..I could not put that down...Bee Season by Maya Goldberg and anything by Ann Lammott is fabulous.
Hope that helps!

Discworld series of novels by Terry Pratchet, they are humour, he uses a fanatasy world called Discworld to examine issues in our own worlds. Makes you think too.
Classic top action adventure authors- Robert Ludlum, Frederick Forsyth, Alistaire MacClean, Jack Higgins. I'd recommend:
The Apocalypse Watch by Robert Ludlum
The Odessa File by Frederick Forsyth
The Eagle Has Landed by Jack Higgins
1. The Guns of Navarone and 2. Where Eagles Dare by Alistaire MacClean
If you want espionage thrillers, then John LeCarre is great. I like The Constant Gardener and Absolute Friends among his recent work. While there is mystery and intrigue, you are captivated by the characters he creates and how events shape their lives.

For fiction, I would recommend....
Janet Evanovich's 'Stephanie Plum' series. A chick flick/mystery series that always has me in stitches.
Jasper Fforde's 'Thursday Next' series is very good fiction, if you have a quirky sense of humour.
Marian Keyes for light 'chick flicks'.
And..... if you are interested in Sci-fi, 'Ender's Game' by Orson Scott Card is a more serious novel that explores subjects such as morals and ethics in a futuristic setting.
A good, generic website to start with would be amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Recommended-Fiction/lm/3IVIWA3N9X1L8
Hope this helps, and enjoy your reading!

If you're looking for chick lit, anything by Jane Green is good. Sophie Kinsella's "Shopaholic" books are good too. If you're into sci-fi, then Terry Pratchett's discworld books are awesome - fairly funny too, and Frank Herbert's Dune series is excellent.

I'm currently hooked on Val McDermid. Her books are great murder mysteries. They keep you guessing until the end! Try A Place of Execution or The Torment of Others.
