The constitution is only paper and ink. It is the people that give it power and our military over the years has given this country many rights and strengths. Even though personal attacks are a pain here for someone to launch into their anti-military rage and say they are just trained killers is so typical of the far out libs the Dems seem to love now. My grandfather's military efforts and his love of this country all his life did far more for this county than millions of the fools who want to disgrace it with their anti-American diatribe and bashing of the military.

Hey Jack...YOU ARE WRONG! I usually try to be a bit more delicate when addressing people I disagree with, but you really take the cake.
You make yourself sound intelligent by stating that it is the constitution that gives us the right to free speech and that is true as far as it goes.
But it is off by several degrees and like any trajectory that starts off by a degree, the end result is WAY off.
It is only through the exercise of FORCE that we got a constitution in the FIRST PLACE and it has only been through the use of FORCE that our nation and our constitution has been maintained.
If you think that we have free speech (and our many other freedoms) simply because we say so then you are so far out in left field that all you can hear is the razing from the cheap seats.
We are free because we BELIEVE we are free and once believing we are free we are ready and able to DEFEND those freedoms with our LIVES through the exercise of force.
I commend the questioner for his/her service and his vision as to what is important in this world and especially in America.
You and I have our rights because HE/SHE had the strength of character and bravery to stand between you and I and those that would impose THEIR version of theocracy on us and the world.
While you have the right to your opinion, you embarass me and any reasoning and logical American out there.

I too was in the military and served overseas. I also have no regrets and am very proud of my service and my country. The USA is by far the greatest country ever to exist on Earth. However those fighting in Iraq may be fighting for American values but the people over there are not interested in American Values. They see us as infidels on their sacred land. They are not protecting my freedom of speech. The people trying to remove my freedom of speech are here not there. Just because someone doesn't walk in lockstep with George W. Bush and his minions doesn't mean they are Un-American or un-patriotic. I do plan to keep on talking for it is necessary in a democracy for diverse opinions to be heard. If everyone agreed we might as well have a totalitarian government.
Our military has done well from 1776 to the present. People volunteer to put themselves in harms way for us. We should be grateful for each and every one of them.
Just because one does not approve of what we are doing in Iraq does not mean one is not patriotic or anti American. Just the opposite. It means we are not willing to support something wrong just because our President says so. We are called the loyal opposition. We stood beside him (spiritually of course) on 9/11 and 9/12 and were proud to do so. Someone had attacked our nation. Our President is our leader and focal point for us to rally around. He blew it because he didn't continue to seek out and destroy Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda but went after a country that was no threat to us based on false intelligence that the Administration believed too quickly and did not check out before reacting. Now we are in a real mess. Our treasury is on the verge of bankruptcy, we have the highest deficit in history after the first surplus in decades.
I protected your freedom of speech as you did mine. This is why we can have a discussion where each of us can take opposing viewpoints and still be Pro-American, Patriotic, and Pro-troops.

Um...i think of what that word is that "he who has the final notice of a debate or some thing and concludes the debate by way of his assertion gets the respect for it". So enable's say somebody journeys you. They get to take a seat there and snicker their heads off on an identical time as you're mendacity on the floor...up until eventually the element the place you kick their legs out from below them and lead them to fall flat on their butt. THEN who gets the snicker? ;) See what I advise?

The fact that you term it a "last laugh" sort of means that you view your fellow Americans as your adversaries, in which case I would wonder what it is you were fighting for - YOUR freedoms, or ALL of our freedoms? Sounds like the former. If it was the latter, you would never have posted this non-question to begin with.
"You can only do this because I fought for you" is an arrogant thing to say, and the last time I checked, the military didn't teach arrogance as a virtue.

when it comes to civil and political liberties(speech included), at least a half dozen European countries rank higher than than the U.S. according to OECD. And none of them start wars for these rights either.

The war that we are fighting started due to lies and faulty intelligence. My right of freedom of speech allows me to disagree with being there. If we're fighting the war on terror, what happened to the war in Afghanistan and the search for bin laden?
I appreciate your service but I don't see anything to laugh about here. With over 3,000 dead Americans and countless dead Iraqi's, I see no humor whatsoever here.

Thank you for your brave contribution. I honor the soldiers because I feel they are meaning to do something great, but this current war is disgusting and isn't worth the loss of life. Our government shouldn't be putting our children in harm's way just for profits. Cause... most of today's military is just that KIDS.... kids that join the military so that they will pay for their tuition and then they get sent off to war and some never even make it to college.
