if there was 20 murders in 1985 and 35 murders in 1992 how many murders was there in 1987? from 1985 to 2001 how many murders were there in that time fram? i need to know how many murders there was in 1987. can you please help me out with this math problem?

The number of murders in any given year would have no impact on the number of murders in any years before or after. Is this for a city, country, continent? One can study trends in a time period, but if this is truly a math problem, it's really, really dumb!

This doesn't look so much like a math problem (because more info is needed), but more like a research problem.
There were 35 murders in 1992 (as you stated). Just google murder rate 1987.
