A rubber mouth or a bristlenose would be the best choices over all. Some of the Hypancistrus sp. are great choices as they often stay under 4". They may be a bit harder to find and cost a little more, but they are worth search for. In my area a common pleco goes for about $2 and one of these guys for $4-$50 depending on species.

I believe the Clown Pleco is small enoughb for the 10 gallon, never growing beyond a couple of inches big. Pricier than the normal one at aroun 6 or 7 bucks, an interesting little guy though.

Also, Since the Otocinclus is classified as a member of the Loricariadae family he is truly a miniature pleco and stays at about 1 inch in length. They are also more active in the daytime than most plecos are and more visible than the mostly timid other members of that family.

Hope this helps.

I don't know of any pleco that is suitable for a 10 gallon. Even dwarfs grow to 6" and would be too large for your tank.

You also mentioned semi aggressive tankmates. A 10 gallon tank isn't large enough for more than about 5 or 6 small tetras. I'm not sure any semi aggressive fish are suitable for that tank. What fish do you currently have?

I would go with a rubber mounth pleco they are small, don't grow to big, get along well with semi-agressive tropiclas and they can be found at almost all the petsmart staores my petdepot even carries it. They cost about 2-3 $ not a fortune and are pretty hardy. Mine is 2 years old and is barley 2 inches

Easy......go to Petco or a petstore....the small ones cost about 1.99....they will outgrow the tank depending on how much you feed them and how fast, that is inevitable, but I trade my bigger ones in for smaller ones and everyone is happy. Good luck.
