Darlin - my injury was in 1994 and it permenantly disabled me. No ...the pain never goes away. It waxes and wanes between horrifying to mildly annoying over time.
DO get as much Physical therapy as possible.
DO have surgery if they think they can repair it. (Mine wasn't able to be.)
DO maintain the exercises learned in physical therapy - FOR LIFE.
DO keep from gaining to an unhealthy weight. The more weight, the greater the pain. Invest in EXCELLENT walking shoes. I love my "New Balance" and they make a difference in my stamina.
DO invest in alternative pain relief methods - heat packs, ice packs, dark chocolate, clove tea...
DO NOT grow dependant on prescription pain killers... (prolonged use of codines cause a vast number of other problems... I'm on my 5th colon surgery... never mind the kidneys and liver probs...)
DO NOT EVER give up. There are new therapies every single day. It wears on your heart, mind and soul... but it can be dealt with. Find a POSITIVE influence to maintain in your life... faith, music, friends, loved ones, any and all...
DO make sure the other driver's insurance provides for you... NEVER sign a settlement without a lawyer's advice. If they were uninsured - hit small claims court ASAP... Your state's minimum claim allowance will surely not ever come close to the life long medical bills this will incur.
Get Police reports, Hospital billing invoices, Doctor's notes, Nurses' notes, copies of the X-ray, CT, MRI, any and all information available. Never let anyone tell you that you can't get them. ...Doctor's retire and radiology only keeps the films for a short time - and you will need this information for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. Start a file NOW.
My injury was job related - and they forked out nearly a cool million in just my medical bills. (A refrigerator fell off a lift and hit me collapsing my spine.) I have over 400 pages in medical records - and there is always a call to have them yearly.
Keep the originals of every bit of correspondance with regaurd to the insurance, the police, D.A., doctors... EVERY SCRAP and NEVER toss it. It will ALWAYS become relavant at a later date when you least expect it.
NEVER do what you've been told to not do... I become frustrated regularly and do too much and WHAM - the pain is rediculous and the recovery time just gets longer and longer...
GET as many doctor's opinions as you can afford to - but invest in a chiropractor regularly - and one that WORKS on helping you out of pain. There are a lot of quacks in that flock of ducks... but when you find a jewel, you'll know it. Mine helps relieve my pain and got me off of nearly 10 different drugs.
Finally - Love is patient, love is kind, never jealous, boastful, proud or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered, it keeps no record of wrongs done to them, it is always supportive, loyal, hopeful and trusting. It rejoices in truth, not in evil. Love never fails.
...He is your fiance and needs you now more than ever. The pain will make him depressed and angry at times - but this will pass if you are patient and LOVE him.
...You are by far his most precious asset right now. Be strong. There will come a day when you need him to be there for you as you are there for him now. Teach him how you want him to be for you - in the way you are there for him now.
You need each other. Stick around for the precious times.
I pray you both get relief and peace.

I suffered a slipped disk approximately 12 years in the past and nonetheless on occasion undergo with anguish and suffering with it. After experiencing an extra coincidence, which inflicted extra suffering on my again a couple of years in the past, I finally used to be despatched to peer a physio. Best factor ever! I would not advocate any physio, till you'll be able to stroll round with out crippling suffering - however the one means I ever acquired via my painfully occasions, used to be to in the beginning take a shed load of painkillers and leisure up; however then finally to begin relocating approximately. It will almost always harm, however it's not a "dangerous suffering", as in that you are no longer hazardous something additional. You must do this to preserve your again from freezing up. When you think as much as it a few smooth pastime is the nice factor - I would not advocate what I used to be advised, as I'm no longer a surgeon! However when you consider that all my misadventures with slipped disks I've observed that once an cardio exercise, my again feels superb - which maybe is whatever for later. I would not fear approximately your bum and legs - once more it's not a "dangerous suffering". Try enjoyable baths and raising your legs might support if you happen to lay out instantly. Hope this is helping!
