A good friend of mine, Anna, is turning 16 tomorrow. Her uncle just died and the funeral is on her birthday! :(
I want to get her something to cheer her up. Any suggestions?

I think anything that you know she'll like you should get! I would also give her a sympathy card and her birthday present, that way you are acknowledging her grief and trying to cheer her up at the same time =)

It's no different than a normal birthday. Just get her something thoughtful that you know she'll love. Write her a nice card wishing her a great birthday and telling her what a great friend she is. That alone will cheer her up.

Take her some where for a day. Get her mind off her uncle. But make a whole day out of it. Go shopping, to the movies, out to eat, just go all out. She will need a day to escape from her grieving. Trust me this is from experience...

If she was close to her uncle and is truly grieving, then nothing you get her will cheer her up. She has to go through her grief in order to heal.

The best gift you can give her is your shoulder to cry on. Let her know that she can express her grief to you and you won't feel uncomfortable.

That's what real friends do.

Get her a gift and offer to do something together after the funeral, at a time when she feels more open to socializing. Right now, just be a friend to her because your friendship will be the most valued gift.

Well get her a Saint Christopher necklace that way and put her uncle's name on it and that way when she misses him just hold the medal. So just be there for her.
