You need a router.
I use Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router WRT54GS. Works great!
Adopter I use is the Linksys Wireless-G USB. Plugs right into your USB port.
Head to best buy or some other pc store and they will help you find what you need. If you buy linksys they have live help who will walk you through the entire setup process. I had my home network up and running in about 30 minutes.
2 pc's and 2 laptops.

First, you need to set up a wireless access point to transmit the signals from the internet connection to your computer. In most cases a single access point will cover your entire house.
The simplest type is a wireless access point that plugs into the jack for a cable-modem, DSL-modem or Ethernet connection. It allows computer(s) with a wireless card within its range to connect to the internet through it wirelessly.
Another type of product combines a wireless access point with a built in Cable\DSL Broadband Router for a more sophisticated home network. But, easy to set up. You can have multiple computer connecting to your internet, wirelessly and threw cables since most wireless routers are hybrid. If you choose to go this way, make sure you enable the wireless feature. I personally always like to go this way. In case, I want to connect more computer wirelessly or add new computers to the network.
I recommend Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router. It's easy to setup and overall a great router. I have one myself.
Hope it was helpful.

You are going to need a router and a broadband connection. Best bet is a Linksys router. You connect the broadband connection to the Internet Port on the back of the Linksys.
Next, you open a browser and enter 192.168.1.1 into the ADDRESS bar on your browser. This takes you to the Linksys setup screen. From here, go to the SETUP tab in this window and give your router an SSID . Name it whatever you want, just change it from LINKSYS.
In the "Starting at IP Address" most people like to start at 192.168.1.100. If you intend to attach more than one machine enter the number of computers/other devices into the "Maximum number of . . . users, " so, if there will be only one machine, make that number a 1.
Finally, you are going to want to set up some kind of wireless security. For this, you click on the Wireless tab which takes you to another set of entries to be made. The main thing is to put SOME password on it. You can use a passphrase if it is easier to remember. I use WPA and TKIP instead of WEP. WEP is less secure.
Good luck.

As long as your using high speed internet instead of dialup. What you need is a wireless router. What you'll do is unplug the ethernet cable from the back of your computer and plug it into the wireless router. And follow directions that came with the router to setup your wireless network and make it secure. Usually a very easy process. Linksys and DLink are both good.

if you don't want to buy a router and have a desktop computer that also has a wireless card, you can use that computer to share the signal. That is my current set-up between my desktop Mac and my iBook.
The main downside is that you have to keep your desktop running all the time for this to work.

firstly, get high-speed Internet, then buy a wireless router. (they can be bought at any electronics store or even Wal-Mart.
Make sure your wireless settings are set to "automatic" and once your router is plugged into your modem, your wireless enabled computer will go on-line.

to get one in your home you need to install a wireless router. Otherwise you can go to a public hotspot to use it like a public library, coffee shop(starbucks), etc.
