What does this mean....?
Hi, yesterday I asked "Which hand do South Africans wear their wedding rings?" twice. I had one answer to each question. One said "They cant wear them, they dont want there hand cut off. But it would be left." and the other answered "The one that wasn't cut off by the mobs"

Can someone explain what they mean by that? I've never heard of that reputation about SA before.... lol

Oh, and while I'm here, can someone tell me the time difference between England and Cape town, SA? :)

Thanks.

My wife's from brazil and she doesn't wear much jewelry at home because she's afraid it will be taken (with or without her finger attached). Apparently, SA criminals are a bit more hardcore about getting the jewels.... Capetown is an hour ahead of london.

It's not just South Africa, I was in South America with a recently engaged couple sitting in a retaurant outside on the patio. She was showing off her diamond ring, when a group of thugs with machetees CUT HER HAND OFF and then ran! Just to get her diamond ring.

If you saw the movie "Blood Diamond" it might answer some questions for you about how the underground diamond trade.

back in slave days if slaves didnt follow their masters orders theyd get punishments, their hand/ foot cut off, or whips. So that's what those low life losers meant. They should learn to respect history.
