Carpeting

Hardwood -- Hands down.

Being a Long Term Single Parent, and a Long Term Homeowner (now an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree) I am renovating my home and REMOVING ALL TRACES of the Wall-to-Wall Carpeting.

The Carpeting just does NOT last. It gets nasty real easy, is hard to maintain, easy to rip, easy to stain, and just not practical.

With a good hardwood, I've been able to keep the floor clean, not stained, and just in good shape (and I laid this flooring MYSELF!).

Hardwood floors are easier to maintain for people with allergy's. If you want a rug you can always use an area rug with hardwood floors. It would be the best of both worlds. Hardwood floors also increase the value of ones home.

I prefer carpeting, because it is warmer (cold up here in Maine!). But - carpet really is nasty stuff. We had a pug that would sit on her butt, and spin in a circle, then sniff what she left behind. Yuck. That stuff stays in/on the carpet. You'd have to wash and sanitize it every day, and you just can't. We have 10 year old carpet, and I'd be afraid to know what's in it or on it. Hardwood/tile is way cleaner, and more desirable.

In the house - carpet. On my girl - hardwood floors.

Hard wood floors are really nice. Sweep and mop, and you're good. Carpet tends to stain easily. You could always have both. I do.

Carpeting sucks. Gets dirty, stained, worn, needs replacing, too hot in the summer.

Hardwood is the best hands down.

Hard wood floors because they are easier to keep clean and maintain.
