This is where a field guide comes in handy. Triangular head to me says either scared water-snake or cottonmouth, but there are no guarantees in this. A photo would be a help at least, but better safe than sorry.

It would help if you mentioned what part of the country you were in. There are a lot of different snakes that it could be. From the triangle shaped head I can tell you it's probably not a kingsnake. The best advice is to just stay away from it. If you want it removed call a local wildlife control center and they will send someone to remove it. Don't try to do it yourself because you don't know what species it is and you will probably get bitten.

i don't know American snakes but it sounds like a cotton mouth or a water snake kings don't have triangular heads unless some one imported a black mamba

king snakes do not have triangular heads but common water snakes can flatten their heads to resemble a viper if threatened.
