Places like Sea World or theme parks like them require a college field degree in Biology or Marine biology or Psychology. If you go to their websites- and click on jobs at......it will explain the type of training that goes into becoming a aquatic animal trainer.

Moorpark College is a Community College in Mooorpark California that has a two year Exotic Animal Training and Management Program.

Experience is valued in this field so any volunteer work with animals will help. Volunteer at a zoo or vet clinic or train dogs, Learn "Clicker Training", Operant Conditioning etc.

A good book is "Don't Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor( a dolphin trainer)

Go to college and get a good solid degree. You may not have to do this to be in the Seaworld workforce, but if you want to do this seriously, then you need the education. Go into Biology/Marine Biology. You need courses in Chemistry, English, Biology, Zoology, and all the other ologies...to do this but is can be done. My youngest son is 11 years old and that is his chosen field. Read everything you can and talk to people. When you know what you are talking about you can find an "in" somewhere. My son found it at my college. They liked him so much that he was invited to go to California this summer to work in the Marine Biology program to see if he really wants to do it. My brother did the same and found on the job training in Hawaii. Good luck. Education is the key.

If you live near a Sea World, contact them. You may have to take courses in Marine Biology. Even if your local zoo doesn't have an Aquarium exhibit, you could contact them as well. Or , many cities have a separate Aquarium exhibit. If yours does, contact them as well. Cover as many bases as possible to express your interest. Good Luck!
