I apologize for not being completely clear in this. My work colleague is the one getting the divorce and didn't know what to do. Since I'm quite happily married and no of no one in my immediate circle thats been divorced I felt it might be a good idea to get some answers here. Thank you all for being kind and writing such good, and sometimes funny responses.

Are there children involved? If so, the most important thing you can do is to resolve to protect them. Remember they are totally innocent in this and they may not think so. Don't let your future ex talk you into something you don't really want. Unfortunately, this is not the time to be a gentleman. Depending on your wife's personality she can try to use that to get anything she wants, including the children. Find a close friend that you can talk to and who will really listen to you. This could be a long term process your friend can help you see things from another prospective. I'm sorry about your upcoming divorce and good luck.

bypass to the county clerk in the county that has appropriate jurisdiction and verify there. If the two considered one of you reside in separate counties, verify the two. The papers could be filed and the two not yet served or he might have tried a submitting devoid of provider for some reason (a Marital Dissolution contract, working example). bypass forward and get an lawyer now in case you're contesting this or in case you have any further legal questions.

Well the first thing to do is get a lawyer and show him the papers so he can explain what all she wants from you and then you can tell him if it's what you want or not. But if it comes to child support remember one thing they are yours and they will need teh money so give it to them willingly. And then go from there.
