go to safe mode and wait if for the freeze part.. if it didn't occur then restart it again..
if you were able to go to safe mode
go to run>msconfig>startup>then look for suspicious programs there or good thing is to uncheck all of them and try it on the normal mode (restart the pc then normal mode)

to go to safe mode press f1 or f8 before the xp screen shows up
maybe driver problems or virus

You probably have malware...this is spyware and adware that causes a lot of problems.

If you can go to www.download.com and download Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware.

Update both of them and then run one then the other. Delete everything they find. Reboot...see if that helps you out.

One thing that can cause that is an un-updated motherboard. Another is loose ram...I am not 100% sure on this but its always worth checking out.
