Doctors use two types of blood tests to check for pregnancy. Blood tests can pick up hCG earlier in a pregnancy than urine tests can. Blood tests can tell if you are pregnant about 6 to 8 days after you ovulate (or release an egg from an ovary).
A quantitative blood test (or the beta hCG test) measures the exact amount of hCG in your blood. So it can find even tiny amounts of hCG. This makes it very accurate.
Qualitative hCG blood tests just check to see if the pregnancy hormone is present or not. So it gives a yes or no answer. The qualitative hCG blood test is about as accurate as a urine test.
If they used the quantitative blood test maybe the hcg level was just low. So that's where they got the positve. I would call and ask which one they used, What did they inform you to do?

When I had a posative. then negative pregnancy it was because I had a tubular pregnancy. My doctor tried to tell me it was negative and I lost the baby. The reason I felt pregnant was because it was all in my head. He apoligized over and over again when I made him to a lapascopy and he found the tubular pregnancy and found I was nearly 3 days away from being dead. He learned a very valuable lesson. A person knows there symtoms and it is not in there head. Start pressuring your doctor to do something. !!!! tubalar pregnancy can not be found with ultra sound. only surgery.

I don't understand how your test at the dr. can come back both pos. & neg. Did you take it 2 times?
I'd take a blood test.
Did he suggest any other tests to see why your period isn't coming? That needs to be addressed.

It sounds like you have weak hormones in your system. If it came out positive at the doctor's, did they do anything? Say anything?
They will check for etopic pregnancy, which is what it is sounding more and more like.
ALWAYS ask the doctor to interpret the results. Trained doctors are better than strangers.

If doc's office test are inconclusive, demand that they do a test that will be of certainty.

it could be your hormones. after i had my son i would quit having periods and stuff i went to the doctor and he told me that my male hormones were higher than my female hormones which was making me not have a period or ovulate so he put me on this medicatuion called provera for a week and it brought my period on. i would say that its your hormones.
