Depends what you're into........

If you like fishing, TFG supposedly make some good rods
http://www.totalfishinggear.co.uk/
Or a couple of books to get you started if you've never tried it before http://www.worm-dangler.co.uk/html/fishing_books.html

If you're into gaming, you could get both a Nintendo DS + a SONY PSP + a load of games for both.......... or one of them new PS3 things, or maybe a Nintendo Wii
http://www.john-duck.co.uk/html/jd_s_gaming_store.html

If you had model trains when you were a kid, and kinda miss playing with them you could always take up Railway modelling
http://ngaugesociety.com/
http://www.hattons.co.uk

Or if you have a slight hint of an interest in Astronomy, you could buy a few bits & bobs to get a bit more into it
http://www.john-duck.co.uk/html/astronomy.html
Like maybe a Telescope + a copy of "STARRY NIGHT" astronomy software

If you're into Photography, £1000 could easily buy you a Nikon D200 or Fuji S5 Pro Digital camera
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/photo/digicameras/nikon.html#d200
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/photo/digicameras/fuji.html#s5pro

Or you could get 1 or 2 Gold Coins from the Royal Mint
http://www.royalmint.com/RoyalMint/web/site/Shop/coins_listings.asp?category=Coins:%20British%20Gold%20Coins

Or check out this article on financial website MOTLEY FOOL UK and learn how to make it into an even bigger pile of cash
http://www.fool.co.uk/school/2006/sch060130.htm
For instance, £1000 if bought through Halifax Sharebuilder would currently buy you around 50 Shares of "Royal Bank of Scotland"....... and technically you'd be buying yourself a stake in one of the world's largest banks + at next year's dividend rate of £1.13 a share you'd be raking an extra £56 a year into your pocket without hardly lifting a finger.

Or if you're a bit of a hairy bottomed enviromentalist do-gooder, you can purchase an acre of Woodland via The Woodland Trust http://www.dedicatetrees.com/Detail.aspx?id=3

Or if you ain't, perhaps start building a kit car

Anything you like its your money!
if it was me I'd clear my overdraft first then put the balance towards any other outstanding debt.
Any money left over I'd blow on whatever i fancied at the time. if i was in a relationship I'd consider getting the wife and or girlfriend a gift.
if i was a parent I'd get the kid/s something.
but as I'm single I'd probably be a boring old fart and use it to upgrade my computer.

but may be you could use it as a down payment on a holiday. Maybe hire an expensive car of your choice for the day.
if you really want to be controversial maybe go to a strip club and blow the lot on a lap dance from every girl on the place (that works there).

what ever we say here it is your money not ours, so the choice ultimately is yours!
may be being sensible with it could mean in the long term you have more money than the £1000 to blow at a later date. if you have a mortgage £1000 now could save you twice that or more long term, then you have to ask what do you blow that on?

Well...Think carefully about the things you really enjoy doing & what you think you would like the most.

you could put £100 of it back into a savings schemme so that your never truly skint !

If you buy a big item...you can see what you spent your cash on...e.g a HD television, a motorbike etc etc.

Just enjoy the money while it lasts.

Good luck
