I stopped smoking a week ago today, just tossed a full pack and did not look back. The problem that I am having now is my chest feels real conjested, more than it did while I was smoking. Is this just part of the process of quitting or something else? Also what should I expect in the next few weeks? The first day was hard but after that I have not even considered smoking, my wife and several coworkers smoke and it does not bother me to be around them.

Your lungs are going into shock, in a sense. I experienced the same thing; however, it won't last long. Good luck to you! I wish I had the will power again.

It's normal to feel like this. You can also expect to be coughing more and more over the next couple of months.
Your food will also taste a lot different to you. You may find that things that you liked when you smoked are suddenly things that you no longer like the taste of.

Get ready to be able to smell things that you didn't smell before or certain smells will be a lot stronger to you. Like diesel cars, the smell is even stronger than you ever remembered them as being, it's horrible. Flowers smell sweeter than you remember them being, but in a nice way.

So yes it is all just part of the process after quitting. Good for you that you quit, I really hope that you make it. Remember that if you don't stay quit, keep trying. You didn't just one day start smoking you had to practice doing it to become a smoker and you will have to practice it to become a non smoker again. You will make it if you just keep trying.

Be at peace, every day it will get easier and you will breath easier too. Good luck. If you get nervous, just take long deep breaths in through your nose and then exhale from your mouth. Do this slowly as it will help you relax and feel better. It will help take the urge away from you.

That's the same way I quit just about a year ago. If your chest feels more congested now than before, do the smart thing and go see a doctor. At least now he won't yell at you to quit smoking. Your lungs have started to "heal" from the abuse, so go have them checked.

Well thats one of the first reactions when you quit smoking, then you'd cough a lot after that. thats pretty normal because your lungs are adjusting... don't worry also start doing some exercise and drink lots of water or fresh fruit juice:)
By the way, congratulations for quiting. It must be really hard but you still managed to keep it:)

good on you!! remember tho to keep at it and dont go back. i think that the pain in your chest will be there for a couple more days/weeks as when you were smoking before they were just numbed to a certain extent(does that make sense???)
well done for quiting, now try to persuade others around you to give up (lol)

It nothing serious. Body is just craving for smoke since it is habituated .... keep calm and keep away from smoking. ... in a few days it will be alright.

youll be fine in a liitle while just dont light up a cig for anyone or youll start wanting them again
