hairspray works on a fresh stain. I'm in cosmetology school and that's what we use if we get hair dye on our clothes

If it is set, about all you can try is dye remover......sold with the fabric dye........Rit for example. Dab just on the stain. Problem is it will probably remove the underlying color too.
If you catch the spot immediately, rinse repeatedly in cold water, dabbing with a white cloth. Then wash with a mild detergent mixed with cold water and rinse again.
Actually, I've learned the safest way is to wear no clothes, no bath mats underneath and use the same previously stained towel.

The best you can do is dye the rest of the item the same colour.
Or use a darker dye on the item to colour both the stain and the normal colour.

Try spraying hairspray onto the stain, leave to dry and then wash as normal, a hairdresser friend of mine suggested this to me when she accidentally got it on my top and it worked, you need to do it as soon as possible though....

Sorry, you can't. But if you've ruined something (ie: a shirt) just hang on to it and use it the next time you color your hair.
