then why in the world is republican after republican stepping up and saying that gonzales needs to resign as well? republican senator specter claimed we needed an AG who is candid and truthful. not a single republican senator or congressmen has came to the defense of the attorney general, only the white house. of course the white house will, because he was doing their dirty work! so dont you people realize that there really was something wrong going on in the justice department and not another "witch hunt" from the Dems?

Little by little, people are realizing that it is NOT a matter of Dems vs Reps but moreso an issue of law and justice; some of those fired Ags were investigating or prosecuting corrupt Republicans (White House cronies?). The fact that the actual firings were done by some flunkies is an issue that deserves to be questions to see if the reason for the firings was for nefarious purposes under the direction of someone or some group of individuals higher up the chain of command... not a witch hunt or a ploy to get back at the President, as some would like to believe. IT was the abuse of power and violations of laws that finally forced Tricky Dicky to resign in order to save face and keep his Presidential benefits (pension money and medical benefits, Secret Service personnel for security, travel expense, etc) as the impeachment process was underway and he faced not only removal from office and loss of pension and benefits but actual jail time!

There is also the issue of division of powers which the President refuses to accept as HE tries to re-write the Constitution to suit his personal agenda and put himself above the laws, above the Constitution and exempt from the laws, ethics and morals imposed on the rest of the Nation and humanity.

The Nation is tired of the secretive cloak-and-dagger shenanigans, and the abuse of Constitutional rights, freedoms and liberties, and lies, misinformation, diversionary tactics and plain old fashion demagogic dirty tricks, and Dubya's despotism and dictatorial rule!

To quote you: "not a single republican senator or congressmen has came to the defense of the attorney general"

To quote your link: Republican Senator Trent Lott (news, bio, voting record) however defended Gonzalez, branding the Democrats' demands a "partisan fishing expedition."
"The president has every right to remove US attorneys," Lott said on Fox. "And I think, frankly, they should be. In fact, I've noticed that they tend to get to think that they are federal judges. They'll do what they want to."

Read all of your sources before posting a biased question.

Oh don't you know those Republicans will be called traitors. There will be some right wing nut job that will say it is Clinton's fault.
Gonzales forgot he was no longer the suppository for Bush but the chief law enforcer. HE has not done his job and he needs to go.
If everything was above board, why did they threaten one of the US attorneys Bud Cummins and told him not to talk? That if he did they would take the "gloves off"? Huh!?!
this was because they were operating like the persecution department, not the justice department

This issue is not just about blowing smoke.

The bad thing is if "Freddo" resigns right now, the issue will die. If the investigations go on, it will come out that Republicans were trying hard to influence elections by issuing indictments right before election day.

I think this firing spree came about because of White House anger at losing both houses of Congress.

Good point.....the reason a lot of Republicans are doing this is because they want to distance themselves from Bush. It is okay if he ignores Congress and the American people, as he does not have to get elected again. The Republicans in the Senate and Congress will have to answer for their actions at some point, and the American people are never thrilled with scandals.

Specter is a Democrat is Republican's clothing. He's no more Republican than Ted Kennedy. As for the Republicans who are clamoring for Gonzales' head. There is an election year coming up and they are up for re-election. They feel that distancing themselves from the whitehouse will benefit their re-election. Once again, you have people who are being swayed by polls rather than standing their ground.

I'll tell ya....

If this was a Dem president Republicans would be head hunting as well!

Funny thing is at least this administrations crimes are in fact crimes!
Republicans chased after Clinton for years at exorbitant financial cost to taxpayers to no avail until Monica handed them a soiled dress!
Not that I don't think Clinton was wrong ...he was.

But Bush's crimes are much bigger and much worse for the US!!!

Arlen Specter's a RINO.

Gonzalez is doing a good job and should stay. Dems are just looking for headlines.

Because most repubs in congress are weak-kneed panty-waists who won't stand up for any belief or principle.

The firings are perfectly legal and above board.

The dems promised this kind of thing would go on for 2 years if they retook congress. They are out to destroy this country, period
