and when is it that you are no longer a newbie? When you get that nifty orange logo that says "top contributor"? or when you get to level 7. I'm only on level 2, but I also work full time and raise a family, I don't have time to be on Yahoo! Answers 24/7. Am I still a newbie?

The day you answer a question on here is the day you stop becoming a newbie-in my opinion. You appear a very intelligent lady, yet very modern and i don't think it matters what level you are, people will respect you for your advice and overall wisdom.

As to why do people hate newbies........all i can refer to is back to the day i started my current job. There were people there whom had been there for years. And then in i came with a younger outlook and possibly more energy. It can look threatening to some people when newcomers turn up.It seems to be conceived that someone new can want to take charge, be the best. This is not the case in most instances but we can't control how others see our honest intentions.

Newbies are the ones that come in and don't realize that we're trying to have fun. This used to be the section where anything goes. But 'newbies' started coming in by the truck load and didn't realize this and started reporting us. Almost all of the regulars (like myself, I was only a few hundred points short of level 7) lost there accounts and had to start over again. This is my second account. There third and fourth accounts amongst us. Veterans like Lolli and Jennifer F have been here since day one. That explains all the anger.

I came across 'Newbie' long time ago (1994) in computer circles of programming and exchanging information with other 'God' like users...experts. It's because Newbies would always be asking stupid questions that the Experts have told everyone to read the FAQ first.
Eventually, when you contribute something to the 'circle', and answer questions, Newbie just goes away, although to some you may never achieve expert status.

I don't hate newbies.

However, people here have been reported, suspended and even deleted, sometimes justifibly, usually not.

And, it is people who have new accounts that usually do it. Notice, I said new accounts, not newbies. Some twits will create a new account, act like an outboard in a septic tank, and then you will never hear from them again.

That is why some people here are suspicious of people with new accounts.

Anyway, ask interesting (or funny) questions, give intelligent (or funny) answers and you will find people warming to you fairly quicky. . .

Okay, here's the info:

Newbies are just fine. EXCEPT for those that come to this category and start taking every word of it seriously. Then there are those level ones and some twos that think it's funny to report people for abuse just to be jerks. Newbies often come on this category and start talking smack to other folks who have been here for a while.

It's just that they need to do a little *thinking* before they act. You know, kind of get to know some of us before making a fool out of themselves.

I do not hate newbies. I do think it wrong for people who have not been here for very long to go around reporting people who have been here for a while and know how this category operates.
