A good homemade weed killer? Is there one?

The back portion of my yard is all weeds. I dont want to plant grass, as its too expensive to water all the area with city water. Whats a really good home made weed killer that will get rid of these pains in the ***. Thanks

You're smart not to plant grass. It's really hard to take care of. You really should just spade up all the weeds and haul them into the garbage. then maybe you could map out some raised flowerbeds with a path in between. For the path, you could just roll the ground hard and cover it with weed fabric and a layer of mulch.

Completely smother the area with mulch. Cover it a good 6 to 12 inches deep. You dont have to buy mulch. You can use shredded leaves instead of bagging and getting rid of them. You can use sticks, pine needles, dirt, rotted tree stumps, etc. You can use anything natural. Or...you can order a truckload of mulch. This deep layer of mulch will smother the weeds and the area will also look attractive. It might be good to till the area and then get the mulch. After you have mulch 12 inches deep, you might find that this looks so attractive you will add things like some rocks here and there, and maybe a birdbath, or some large decorative logs or tree limbs that you can find in any woods. Just continue all year long to add to the mulch. Rake and shread leaves and continue to dump in the area. You will be surprised how nice shredded leaves look and your weedy space will be quite nice to look at.
