You don't have to be 'that good' of a mother by others standards. You have to be 'that good' of a parent to be allowed into their secret world. If you speak to them without speaking down; listen to them when they are talking; and treat them the same as you would your own, that is all that is required. It really helps is if you are enforcing some rules because there has to be a line drawn somewhere. You sound like you have the right balance. Respecting them at their level is an awesome achievement in my books :o}

Sometimes. My kids are young, but everyday we're outside, going to the museum, the fun park or doing something with no structure. That's how I was raised, and that's important to me. Just be a kid! Let's swing, play in mud, pick up bugs (YUCK) and be kids. They may not know know it now, that I think that makes me a good Mum. I always try.

Definitely! The kids all know that I won't stand for gossip, bad language or bad behavior in my house, but they all seem to congregate here. My kids are 13 and 15 and they and their friends all agree that I am the coolest mom of them all. Can I get that printed on a tee-shirt? 80)

My house is the exact same way. All the kids love coming over here because we have the biggest swing-set. A huge sandbox. And my kids have their own huge toy room downstairs. The other kids love it.

That is so me, I think it's because I'm the neglectful mother and don't give a crap what they do. Or it could be I spent our retirement on toys. We have more than the local toy store. Either way they are always at my house too.

LMAO! Yes, I was the fun mom. (My kids are now 21 & 17). When my daughter and her friends would be in the car, they would all scream "Play that song 'Love Shack' really loud again".

Kids don't like someone who's perfect and sweet. They just want to be with a person that's not uptight and that let's them be themselves. I always get stuck with all the kids.

I try to be. My children are currently drawing pictures in shaving cream on the glass coffee table. My mom would have shot me for that.
