With the criticism over urging the Grand Slam tournaments to award equal prize money to both men and women, what are your thoughts about the criticism over the fairness of this decision (ie. Men playing more sets)?

Are there any articles that discuss both sides to this decision (The fairness of the decision vs. how the players should be playing the same amount, etc.)?

i think maybe it is a bit unfair cos guys sweat it out over 5 setters whereas the girls play just 3 setters.i agree that both men and women gotta train, practice and do other things in the same proportion but they are playing less sets.and i am saying this despite being a girl.
but in the other tournaments where both guys and girls play 3 sets they gotta have equal prize money(like indian wells, dubai open)

Equal prize money is not to far away, now that the major event are starting to do it, the littlier ones have no reason not to, so they dont really have any other chose. I dont see any reason why men should get more, they play more sets, but that should not be a HUGE difference in the money like it is today. I hope to see equal prize money very soon, even though the difference in the sets. On a final note, men play 2 out of 3 sets a lot of the time in smaller events also, and they still get more money!

I am happy about the equality in money, and support the "fairness" of it. Moreover, I would be interested to know the results of a survey given to every person who enters the tournament site--asking them which players they were buying tickets to see. Maybe just a list of the 5 players, male and female, they were going to watch that day. After all data was collected, I would like to see the results of individual players, as well as male combined and female combined results. Also, I would like to see the numbers of spectators generated for every match, and look at the women's matches compared to the men's matches. I have a feeling that they are close to being equal as it is, which is one good reason to offer equal prize money.

Oh; i wasn't aware they were on an hourly rate! Rounded up/down to the nearest 15 mins eh? What a question! I think it may have more to do with where the prize money comes from in the first place, and in that way men & women players have played equal stakes!

there should remain a defference in the price money as the quality of playin tennis is different of female than males as males have more powered ,faster game and ofcourse level of energy is much higher in male than females

it should remain unfair. guys have to train harder, they have to play harder and also at the tournements bring in most spectators and if ur dum more spectators = more money. also look at serena how hard has she been training latly? not very hard i think a 2 year old can run 2 miles faster thn her.... so if u want serena paid as much as federer ur on something.
