It usually is after a Holiday that we in America do not celebrate at all or not on that particular day. Example: This year (2007) on May 10th on my calendar it says Mother's Day (M). I am assuming it means another country or something. Help!

Calendars in Aus do the same thing with holidays that are specific to certain regions for example a recent one wa only part of our state and Victoria it had the date with (NTas, Vic) after it. The calendars also cite holidays of our near neighbours like New Zealand.
The M on your calendar may as someone has already said signify that its a holiday in Mexico.

Mexico celebrates Mother's day on May 10th! So, my educated guess is M is short for Mexico.
