You're judging an entire race based off the actions of a few. Don't do that. You wouldn't want white people to assume you're a criminal because over 80% of the prison population is black, right? I'm black and I can honestly say I have only once ran into blatant racism. I have only been treated with respect by all races because I give respect and i'm a person who is smart, well-spoken and polite. Most of the time, people will treat you as you deserve to be treated. If you come off acting like a moron, people will treat you that way and if you come off acting mature and responsible, you'll get treated that way, as well.

Just so you know, all white people do NOT feel superior to people of color - because we're not. Honestly, it blows my mind that this whole way of thinking got started in the first place.

I don't know where you are writing from, but it has been my experience that the whites who behave in this manner tend to fall into a couple different categories: 1) The majority of them are poor and are not highly educated. They are acting and speaking out of fear and ignorance - and they still have their "great-granddaddy's" mindset from 100+ years ago. 2) The ones you meet that act that way toward you who don't fall into the first category more than likely treat EVERYONE in the same demeaning manner, whites included. Anyone who treats you this way has got serious problems and isn't worth your time or energy.

Most of us are normal, decent people trying to make it in the world and have a good life - and most of respect you and your right to do so as well. So hold your head up high and don't let it get you down, my friend!

Hello!
Tolerance and respect are values that every culture learn since their people are little children. Unfortunately, we have been sorrounded by the belief that different is not good. Some white people live by prejudices, not only against african-descendent people, but against other etnic population as well. So, I can say that they don't treat them as equal because they are still uneducated and their lack of tolerance blind them to accept others with different color of the skin. They still live inside a bubble. But, don't worry, there are so many people that are changing, and the law is against discrimination.

This reads as a generalization which is the very thing you are inquiring about so I am going to believe that is not the was you meant it to come out. OK?

I think you have to take on an individual basis. Some people really believe they are superior. I believe that comes from extreme feelings of inferiority in so many other areas of their lives. Their race is displayed outwardly and is a way to mask their internal shortcomings.

I am working in a very small and very anglo town in MA at the moment and have been here for 2 weeks. The people I see on the streets in convienence stores, etc. go out of their way to make sure that I know where I am going, ask if I am lost, etc. However, they are being polite because they know I am not from here simply by looking at me.

Now I know that some would see that as a form of racism but they are being polite and helpful. The first couple of times it happened, I though it was kind of strange but now I have gotten used to it and think it is sweet.

I do know what you are referring to though, I just do not think it is an entire race. And another observation of mine is that black women, while sometimes discriminated against in no way have it as hard as black men. So my experiences could be quite different from yours.

My point is take people as they present themselves. If they treat you as if you do not exist, they should not even make it onto your radar. Chalk it up as their loss, not yours.

I treat everyone the way that they treat me no matter what race you are. You don't want to be stereotyped by the color of your skin so why would you think that white people want to be stereotyped because of the color of their skin? Practice what you preach!

This is a blanket statement about White people, and it's an unfair statement. Actually, it's a racist statement.

Not all Whites are prejudiced, most I've met are not. All of the White people I personally know (not just met, but ) are not racists. I work with a woman who's grandparents from both sides came from Germany, and she's married to a Salvadorian. She gets along with everyone, doesn't care where they're from or anything. I have other White friends like this, and some are so dear to me that in my heart, they're family.

One need not be White to be racist, because no one is immune to it. Sure, SOME White people are, but not ALL of them are. So please, abstain from making blanket racist statements about anyone.

particular and no eeyoree, you do not make experience. Being Mexican does not define what epidermis shade you're. Mexican is a nationality, in basic terms like American is. If white people got here from Nigeria, they could be Nigerians.

Do not despair there are alot of good white people as well. As I explained in another section as long as there are different classes of white people, as long as there are poor uneducated and oppressed whites they will continue to blame their problems on another race. It makes them feel superior. When the white person is educated and learns to broaden his or her mind, only then will they see how poorly they look spewing venom and hatred out of their mouths. Usually the most racist are the most poor. So take it from where it comes..

Well I don't think its on purpose -- depending on where you are from -- it could be a societal thing -- its been hundreds of years of whites thinking we're above every other race -- its only been about 50 since views have changed amoung the majority of white people. You have to give it time to sink in for some people that we are in fact equal.

I think that Most are not prejudice and treat people fairly the same but those who do not I guess it is because of their ignorance! They do not want to come out of their box.
