Depends where and with whom the flattery occurs. But even when I feel some sense of embarrassment, underlying that feeling of discomfort there can be a nice, warm feeling, especially when it comes from someone, you, yourself respect. It beats the hell out of an insult.

A mix of both. I get complimented pretty often and when it comes from random people I dont know (customers where I work, people in the mall etc), sometimes I get really nervous and shaky and I feel like I have to look away. When its from people I know, it makes me feel ok. My BF flattering me just makes my heart melt!!!! Thats the best.
