My wife has shown interest in wanting to try a spray on tan and I was wondering if they are safe? Also, how much does a sesion cost and can they work on fair skin?

Please stop her!!! I did this and although I'm not redheaded,I am fair skinned and the next morning I couldn't believe how orange I looked,it was awful. I would never do that again and I would never,never suggest it being done to anybody else either.If she wants to be tan, she should stick to the tanning beds.{no pun intended}

Spray tans are very safe, especially when compared to tanning beds or natural tanning! The most important thing to consider is where you get the tan done, many people who have answered talk of being orange etcetc however if you go to a good salon with professionals then the tan should turn out very well, they will advise you on what shade tan should be picked to compliment your skin tone, and if they only have 1 tan option LEAVE! as this means the tan will look orange and fake on fair skin! Prices vary but are usually around $35-$40 for a good salon, you will find cheaper however this probably isn't a good thing to try to price cut on!
I have a tan approx. every 10days as I also have red hair and very fair skin and I am far too health conscious to go on tanning beds as my skin type is more prone to sun burn and therefore skin cancer! I always have the very lightest tan that gives my skin a healthy sun kissed look, rather than a proper deep tan!
Also an important thing to do is exfoliate and moisturize well for a few days before having the tan done, especially around ankles, elbows and anywhere else you have dry skin, as dry skin will absorb more tan and make it very obvious that you have had a spray tan!
Hope it all gets sorted!!
xx

Spray tans are very safe. Depending where you go it may be about $20-40 dollars per visit. I like the ones that the person sprays you with an airbrush, they are more precise that walking into a booth. They can also adjust what color they use- they will usually use a lighter formula for fair skin. A self tan will last from 5 days to a week. It is a great way to to go if you want some color for a special occasion.
I am fair and I use self tanners from time to time. I just do it at home now, I have gotten good at applying it myself. I use a brand called St Tropez. It gives me nice natural looking color- not orange at all.

honestly i have gone to the salon and used it and it is a dirty greasy mess! i highly recommend you try neutrogena air mist spray tan (you can get it anywhere). it works great on fair skin and better than the spray tan. it lightly pigments your skin so you can gradually build you tan. instead of looking fake and bake it looks natural and it is fool proof!
