This is really of question of preference. I own both devices and I like them each for different reasons. The PSP is nice because it has more modern and Playstation style games for it. Racing, fighting, etc. Plus it can play video/mp3 right out of the box.
The DS is also nice because it has unique games like Brain Age and it is the only console that has a touch pad for controlling the games. The DS can also play Videos/MP3 but you need an add on cartridge for it to work.
If you are a hard core gamer I'd recommend the PSP, if not then look at the games available for each and pick the one that has more that interest you.

The DS is better. I own both, and while the PSP is a gorgeous piece of technology, there just aren't many compelling games for it. I only have 5 games for the PSP, but a couple of dozen for the DS. My PSP gathers dust while my DS gets regular use.

PSP, you can watch movies, play video games of course, use the Internet, download mp3 and so much more, and the graphics are just slightly different then the PS2. The DS has nothing on the PSP

The PSP is great if you want to have mp3 files to carry around with you. You can also mod them to have emulators on it.
The DS seems to have better games for it and is also Wi-Fi capable. Many games have this feature so you can play others around the world (or even those as close as 10ft away from you.)
I personally have a DS and would recommend it to anyone on the games alone.

It depends on what you are looking for. PSP has awesome graphics. You can also buy movies to watch on it (but they are expensive). DS is cool because it has a touch screen. I prefer DS because I am a mario junkie. Look at the games offered for both systems, decide if you would want to invest in movies, then make your decision. If you are into the movies, I would go for PSP.

DS. Better gmaes, more diverse games, better interface, better battery life, and it will have internet access in a few months. There. All you need to know.
