My 11 week old only eats about 2oz every 3-4 hours, I do add rice cereal to her formula because of reflux. She is on prilosec for silent reflux. She sleeps through the night for about 6-7 hours straight and will then eat almost full 4oz with 4 teaspoons of rice in it. I always add one teaspoon of rice to each ounce of formula. She can usualy only get through 2oz then begins to scream and cry as if she is in pain. I feel like she isn't eating enough. She has normal stools on average about 3 per day. Anyone else have trouble feeding, could it be that the rice cereal is filling her up and she doesn't need anymore and could be full? Or should I not use the cereal?

If your daughter has been diagnosed with reflux by her doctor and he/she has recommended that the rice cereal be added, then do not change what you are doing without consulting with the doctor first. Babies with reflux do better with eating small amounts more frequently. It is rare for a baby to not eat as much as she needs. If she only wants 2 ounces, then that is likely all she requires right now. The good thing about infant acid reflux is most babies out grow it by the time they are 12-18 months old. Try to feed her as upright as you can get her. Burp her at 1 ounce and then after the 2. If you sit her up on your lap to burp her, it will put less pressure on her tummy then if you put her over your shoulder for burping. As long as she is producing wet diapers and is having bowel movements she is getting enough to eat.

I would say that she is not eating much because she is getting cereal in the formula. She is less hungry. It is normal for some doctors to thicken the formula for relfux.
I would let you doctor know the amount of formula she is taking in and he may recommend the cereal in only so many bottles. The prilosec should be helping the problem enough and with the correct type of formula where she shoud not need thickened formula.
Babies do need a certain amount of formula for vitamin intake especially when they are so young.
I would call the doctor and let them know, express your concern and don't feel bothersome!
Good Luck!

My son is about the same age and he is taking 6oz every 4-6 hours and I do not use any cereal. I think you should stop using the cereal, since it is probably filling her up and that is why she doesn't take all the formula. If she is on medicine for the acid reflux, then you really shouldn't be giving her cereal. They really do not like to give cereal until 6 months.

Unless the doctor told you to use the cereal I would not use it anymore. I am sure its filling her up and she is not getting enough formula because of it. The meds she is on should help her reflux enough without the cereal.

The "rule" is 2-3.5 oz of formula per lbs of body weight per day to a maximum of 32 oz per day. So a 10 lbs baby should eat 20oz -32oz per day.

I really wouldn't do prilosec and cereal that just seems excessive to me.

The reason she is proly screaming is either because of the cereal or the reflux. To determine which it is stop using the cereal. Unless the doctor said otherwise she really is too young for it.

As much as she likes. Totally normal, and expected.

I would eliminate the cereal. It is probably filling her up too much.
