Because of a cat's apparent immunity to fear of heights. A "catwalk" is called that not because you would be likely to find cats there, or even take your cat for a walk there, but because it is a walkway so perilous that only a surefooted cat could walk it with impunity.

It's a thin path that would be hard for us to walk on but easy for a small animal like a cat.
