I'm preparing to buy a core 2 duo LGA 775 for my computer. I have an older motherboard and 2 gigs of DDR ram. Will I need to get new memory or a new motherboard?

I think you will need to get a new motherboard. Yet, try checking on the manual if your motherboard supports dual core.

You'll need a new motherboard.
You might have to upgrade your RAM modules from DDR to DDR2 as well.
(Check the motherboard specifications.)

While you're upgrading your motherboard, you might want to look at upgrading other components as well, such as upgrading to a PCIe video card from an AGP 8x one.
SATA hard drives are the way of the future too. Some motherboards only come with one EIDE connector, which isn't good if you have an EIDE hard drive and CD/DVD drive.

PRobably both, I doubt your old board is a LGA 775 CPU socket and I think all the current boards that are use DDR2 memory
