you can't get away and you are stuck with this rude person, how do you keep from being rude in return?

That is a very good question. I don't have the answer, only a similar situation. He is a guy who had cancer and we helped by hauling him to the cancer treatments, getting him a place to live, and putting up with him throughout the ordeal. He is loud, rude, and a know-it-all. Now he has moved where we have moved to. He comes here and sits around. I can't get away from him or be rude back. That wouldn't even work. He talks and argues and doesn't hear other peoples' input. He doesn't hear a word you say. Even when you repeat yourself, he talks over you, or misunderstands. (example: I say "They should put that stunt on JackAss" He says "Animal Abuse is wrong") I have had to leave the room and when I came back, he was still going on as if I had not left. I make myself busy by cleaning up around him. I can't stand him. I am still stuck with him. Short of avoiding him, which is not possible once he shows up, all I can do is take it.

This is why I love my iPod. I agree with the person who said the only thing worse than being a fool is trying to argue with one. Just let that person be rude. Your calmness and unwillingness to get in the dirt with them will make them look even more foolish. A lot more foolish than if you engage them, then it will just be two rude fools making fools of themselves. So I say keep in mind that you don't need to respond to that craziness.

Act shy...be cool....let the person be a fool on their own and don't feed their need to be rude by agreeing with their comments and letting them continue. If in public with others around, before you know it, the person leaves you since they are not getting an audience in you and they move on to someone else....it works for me in public. You can read the body language of others and they of yours. Some people are too stupid to know when they are annoying.....I've seen so many!!!!

All to often I'm not! I went to a Halloween party with my gal and my mom. My mom is still pretty hot and really not that old yet. A guy was hitting on my mom while I was there with her. When she began to try to ignore him he slowly became more rude because of his drunkenness. Maybe it was my costume and high boots and i towered over him....I looked down at him and said very loudly "HEYYYYY!!!!! THAT'S MY MOM!!!!" He got scared and left.
Nobody should ever have to tolerate rudeness at any level.

It's very difficult. But, I usually TRY to kill them with kindness. On a normal day I succeed. Just as long as they don't hit me on the wrong day of the month. Then as hard as I try, I usually end up throwing a smart comment or two back. I used to sit by one at work and it was not easy being there everyday trying to hold my tounge.

Just restrain yourself from whatever you want to yell back at them and keep on being nice. I know from experience that it is hard to have your mind at peace when you live with these types of people, though, unless you're just totally not focused on what they're doing.

Show the person a pornographic picture. It sounds weird, but it is proven that people who like attention and power and are rude become weak when shown pornography.

mayb u can tok bk in a sarcastic manner. but of cuz, dis wil make things more worse. unless u hav a strong argueing way. if nt u can ignore or by keep smiling to that person whether he/she is tokin or doin things.

Try to keep yourself busy so you don't have to focus so much on what they are saying (and incedentally, maybe they will get the hint)
If that doesn't work, go to your happy place lol.
