The question makes no sense. "Barbarians" was a term coined by ancient Greeks to refer to the rest of the world ("bar-bar" was the sound a Greek would make to imitate an unfamiliar foreign language). To Greeks, both Persians with their elaborate robes and Nubians who barely wore clothes at all were barbarians.

which barbarians did you have in mind? There were a lot of what the Romans called barbarians, and a lot more that the Greeks would have. There were a lot of different German, Mongol, Celtic, Slavic, etc., tribes in Europe at varying times, and they generally wore different things.

animal skins and fur, just like you see on tv, or in the books........that is what created most of the smell, and no running sewage dump.........
