Why do a lot people have EXXON in their portfolio's?

Is the dividend that good? or is it the appreciation people are looking for?

The dividend is good and it also appreciates well. So probably both. Another stock with a great dividend is Altria but people stay away from that because of the stigma of cigarettes

I can only speak for myself...

I have it because I got in when it was low and love watching it make me money as I sit and do nothing for it.
